"I got called into the principal's office and was questioned about why I'm talking about Facebook," Donovan said. In a statement to CNBC, Harvard Kennedy School Director of Public Affairs James Smith disputed Donovan's account of her departure. "The narrative is full of inaccuracies and baseless insinuations, particularly the suggestion that Harvard Kennedy School allowed Facebook to dictate its approach to research." Smith told CNBC that Harvard University and the Kennedy School continue to carry out misinformation and social media research to this day.

CNN —A nationally recognized online disinformation researcher has accused Harvard University of shutting the project she led to protect its relationship with mega-donor and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. The allegations, made by Dr. Joan Donovan, raise questions about the influence the tech giant might have over seemingly independent research. Beginning in 2018, Dr. Donovan worked for the Shorenstein Center at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, and ran its Technology and Social Change Research Project, where she led studies of media manipulation campaigns. But last year Harvard informed Dr. Donovan it was shutting the project down, Donovan claims. The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative is the philanthropy run by Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, who both attended Harvard.

The San Francisco landlord of X's headquarters will be charged fees over Elon Musk's sign antics. Elon Musk is causing more headaches for the landlord of the San Francisco, California, headquarters of X, the social media giant formerly called Twitter. As the new logo debuted on the site, efforts were underway to erase a Twitter sign in San Francisco. Elon Musk spirited the "X" logos onto Twitter's site seemingly overnight, but it may take a while longer to change the sign outside his company's headquarters. The San Francisco police department halted the work on Monday afternoon and spoke to workers tasked with removing the sign, according to the San Francisco Standard. A crane was used to remove some of the letters from the Twitter sign on the company's San Francisco office building. Twitter's landlord in SF accused the company of skipping out on rent since December. It's the latest landlord scuffle for Twitter, which was sued in the UK by King Charles III's firm. Twitter's headquarters at 1355 Market Street, where its landlord is suing over unpaid rent. Earlier this month, the landlord of Twitter's Hartford Building at 650 California Street, sued the social media company over some $136,260 in unpaid rent. In the UK, a real estate firm for King Charles III is also pursuing claims against Twitter there for unpaid rent.

Twitter has not paid rent for its global offices or San Francisco headquarters in weeks, the report said, as Musk's team has been trying to renegotiate the terms of the company's lease. Musk has also revamped Twitter's subscription service, Twitter Blue, with the hope of generating fresh revenue for the company. Twitter Blue costs $8 a month for web users and $11 a month for iOS users who purchase it through Apple's App Store. Blue users will also be able to edit tweets and get early access to new features. He said the new verification system will be "the great leveler" and give "power to the people."
